The following is a list of news and events which were posted on the ANARE Club website during the 2017 calendar year

21 Dec 2017 - There were many stamps plus books and mounted prints associated with Heard Island on sale at the lunch on 13 December and the remaining stocks are still for sale. Proceeds of sales go towards travel for the veterans who attended.

21 Dec 2017 - The Heard Island Commemoration lunch on 13 December was regarded as a great success and people talked on until late into the afternoon. About 110 people attended including 9 veterans of the years for which Heard Island was open 1947 to 1954, after which it was closed when Australia established its first mainland base at Mawson.

21 Dec 2017 - REMINDER - Nominations for the Phillip Law Medal close very shortly on 31 December 2017

20 Sept 2017 - The 'Friends of the Nella Dan' would like to invite ANARE Club members to join with them to celebrate the Nella Dan and commemorate her loss off Macquarie Island at Christmas in 1987.
The event will be held on Friday 13th of October 2017 from 10:30 AM at the Australian Antarctic Division, Kingston

7 Sep 2017 - Congratulations to the summer 2017-18 Club Berth Representative, Graham Pryde (Qld) and Reserve Representative, Rowan Butler (NSW). The Club Berth will probably be V2 to Casey scheduled to leave on 13 December.

14 July 2017 - The Victorian Branch now has its own page and Melbourne MWD information up to 2016 is now indexed under Melbourne - National Council.

14 July 2017 - The Victorian Branch AGM will be held at the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron, Pier Rd, St Kilda on WED 26th JULY with a 7:30pm Meeting start and the Bar will open at 6pm.

19 June 2017 - NOMINATIONS for positions on the ANARE Council for 2017-18 are now open. Nominations must be received by the Secretary (Mr David Dodd) by COB Monday 10 July 2017.
The nomination form must be signed by the Nominator, Seconder and Nominee.

18 June 2017 - The ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING of the ANARE Club will be at the Bayview Eden, 6 Queens Rd, Melbourne, on Sunday 20 August 2017, starting at 2:00 pm. 2016-17 Club Berth Representative, Lucinda Coates, will talk on her round trip.

11 March 2017 - Aurora Australis is due to dock in Hobart after returning from V3 with our Club Berth Representative Lucinda Coates

5 March 2017 - Ian Mackie is running a luncheon at Toolangi on Sunday 5 March at the “Singing Gardens” (former home of the renowned Australian Poet C. J. Dennis) mainly for Victorian Members, but already two NSW members are attending. The address is 1694 Healesville-Kinglake Rd, Toolangi 3777. Book with Ian at 03 5944 4124 if interested.

26 February 2017 - The ANARE Council will be meeting in Melbourne. Among agenda items will be the formation of a Victorian Branch if there is sufficient interest and support.

23 February 2017 - a major revamp for this page (What's New). Changes include:
  • Redundant code has been cleared out
  • Past events are now on a separate page
  • The code for all events on both pages have been cleaned up
  • All entries have been sorted alphabetically and grouped by each calendar year
  • What's New now holds only recent events and/or events which are current
    Please advise the webmaster of any errors. Feedback welcome
    Some overdue notices have now been put up on this page

21 January 2017 - A Memorial Service for Bob Dingle was held at the May Shaw Health Centre in Swansea on Tasmania’s East Coast.
ANARE Club members in attendance were Herb Dartnall, Des Lugg, Pat Quilty and Jan Adolph. An apology was received from Ian Allison.
It was a beautiful day in Swansea and the May Shaw Health Centre did a wonderful job organising the event. The ANARE Club helped fund the plaque which was installed on a piece of East Coast granite at the entrance to the Health Centre.
