ANARE Club NSW Branch Mid Winter Lunch

Saturday 21 June 2025, 1045 hrs to 1600 hrs

Members and guests are once again invited to come to our luncheon event on Saturday, 21 June 2025.

Registration will commence from 10:45 hours, followed by homers, the group photograph, the AGM and lunch being served from 12:15 hours.

Please note: we are shifting all timings forwards half an hour to cater to those who need to leave early

Title: From Frozen Past to Uncertain Future: Antarctica’s Climate in the 21st Century

“What happens in Antarctica does not stay in Antarctica:
recent events including stratospheric warmings and
unprecedented sea ice loss have significant impacts beyond the frozen continent.
This talk will explore Antarctica’s climate history, its role in the global system,
and why recent changes are making some scientists nervous.”

Cost: to be advised, but will be as low as possible!

  1. The NSW Council kindly requests that all payments be received by Friday 6 June, to allow:
    1. the venue to order in sufficient food to feel hungry members, and
    2. the Club volunteers organising the event to properly organise all the arrangements.

Speaker’s Bio:
Stuart is an atmospheric scientist and climate risk specialist, currently working at Risk Frontiers, specialists in the assessment and management of risk across the Asia-Pacific region. Stuart holds a PhD in Southern Hemisphere climate, and has a strong research publication record in the fields of meteorology, climatology, climate modelling, and paleoclimatology. A former lecturer in Climate Science at Macquarie University, Stuart is a chionophile whose science career began as an excuse to join the 2004 ITASE ice core drilling expedition to Wilkes Land.
