With much sadness, the ANARE Club advises that Steve Rayner passed away on 6 February 2025
Steve was a wintering Met Observer at Mawson 1988.

Met Observer, Mawson 1988
Met Observer Steve was a keen musician who not only played rhythm guitar and banjo in the “Mawson Big Band” but was also a member of the Mawson vocal group “the OP Rumdoodlers”.
Like other Mawson 88-ers, he helped out with Graham Robertson’s Emperor penguin studies at Auster Rookery during the year and took on the secondary role of Movie Man. He often embellished movie nights with a show of personal slides.
