Online Events

Our first Branch-hosted Online Event, An Evening with Film-Maker Mike Dillon, was held on Thursday 3 October 2024.

If you missed it, see our Online Event Videos page.

Victorian Branch John Gillies presided over the event, with Mike Dillon introducing clips from his movie The Great White Whale which is currently screening across Australia and internationally.  The documentary movie captures the first successful ascent of Australia’s highest peak, Big Ben, on Heard Island in 1965, using original footage from the expedition and interviews of those involved, among them some former ANARE expeditioners.  Mike Dillon chaired a panel of special guests who included surviving expedition members Dr Grahame Budd (2024 Phillip Law Medal Recipient), Philip Temple (author of The Sea and The Snow) and John Crick (singer and story teller).  The panel enthusiastically answered questions from participants.
