Ian joined ANARE in 1987, after 12 years in the Australian Army, and wintered as a Radio Technical Officer at Casey in 1988 – the last year that the Tunnel was occupied.

Whilst at Casey, Ian was accepted for on-going employment in a telecommunications position at Antarctic Division Head Office – a position that allowed him to travel to Antarctica on a regular basis.

Since wintering at Casey, Ian has summered, on multiple occasions, at all Australia’s permanent stations, visited foreign stations and, in 1997, wintered at Macca.  Ian resigned from AAD in 2009.
Ian passed away suddenly on 16 Mar 2013. A private family service is to be held at Burleigh Heads on Mon 25th Mar. The family address for condolences is 21 Elanora Drive Burleigh Heads Qld, 4220.
